I knew I wanted pleats on it. So I created those first. I made 5 pleats as wide as I wanted the skirt to be. Then I cut the top part of the back piece as wide as the pleats and made it as long as I wanted the skirt to be. Then I sewed the top piece to the pleats.
Next I created the front piece, using the back piece to measure the width and shape, which had a little flair to it. Then I sewed the front and back pieces of the skirt together.
Since zippers and elastic are often time consuming for me, I put a
simple band around the top of the skirt for the waistband. I left one
spot open and threaded a brown ribbon all the way around. When the ribbon is tied, it holds the skirt up on my hips.
Next I sewed the lace around the bottom of the skirt and added these great buttons to the sides to finish it off. I bought the buttons, lace, and pink fabric at JoAnns for a total of about $7. I was excited to find this great shirt at Old Navy for $5 and it matched perfectly! You gotta love great deals!!!
This is so cute! I love the details that the pleats and buttons add! Good Job!
